ABOUT KID DUTCH

Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, jazz historian, “Kid Dutch” Uithoven has been playing “roots” jazz and blues for over 20 years. Born in New York, then moving to Florida, with long visits to family in Mississippi and England along the way, he says (with typical tongue in cheek) “… the vectors add up to a birthplace somewhere near Memphis”.

Kid Dutch performs a wide a variety of jazz and blues, with his roots firmly planted in the jazz of the New Orleans dance halls where it all began.

A true stylist, with a repertoire of hundreds and hundreds of tunes, Kid Dutch performs with a life-affirming joy, a sense of humor, and a love for his audience.



FORMATIVE INFLUENCES

Kid Dutch has been fortunate enough to perform with many fine veteran musicians over the years. He is also a voracious listener with a collection well in excess of 2500 recordings. Here are some of his musical influences, including some heard live:

Jazz: Kid Thomas, Louis Nelson, Jim Robinson, Red Allen, King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, J.C. Higginbotham, Raymond Burke, Albert Burbank, Cie Frazier.

Blues: King Oliver, Bunk Johnson, Louis Armstrong, Little Brother Montgomery, Kid Thomas, Eddie Vinson.

Vocalists: Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Smiley Louis, Slim Gaillard, Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Wynonie Harris.

BANDS/AWARDS
* 1983- 1999 Tuba and Trombone for 1920’s Cocoanut Manor Orchestra
* 1984- Present Founder and Leader of Kid Dutch and his New Orleans Music, playing jazz from the New Orleans dance halls.
* 1987- Present Founder and Leader of Perseverance Brass Band, playing written music and jazz from the New Orleans brass band tradition. Kid Dutch plays trombone, euphonium, trumpet, tuba, and bass drum in this band (though not all at the same time). Featured band for two years at Universal Studios Mardi Gras.
* 1991- Present Trombone for Bill Barnes’ Dixie Ramblers
* 1995 – Present Founder and Leader of Kid Dutch and his Blusicians, playing Jump, Jive and Da’ Blues.
* 2000 Awarded Lifetime Membership in Central Florida Jazz Society
* 2002 – Present Trombone for Leesburg Repertory Jazz Orchestra
