![]() Much to match after start of the season in the jazzclub, reviewer Jens Tybjerg writes after Tuesdays concert.. (Photo: Rene Sørensen, www.rmteknik.dk ) Joyful playing opened the season in the jazzclub From classic jazz to bossanova at Kirsebærkroen Review from Præstø Avis 09/09-2004 by Jens Tybjerg. PRÆSTØ: New Orleans Delight has earlier been presented in Præstø Jazzklub. The other day the five of them together with three guests were standing on the floor, and right from the start of the first set they unveiled themselves as an octet with an exceptional joy of playing, which really moved the audience in the more than filled up hall at Kirsebærkroen. It was a warm summernights evening, and everyone wanted the music to lift up the thatched roof to let the fresh air in. Which didnt happen. This is also the only complaint one can direct to this first gig of the clubs new season. Such a start is promising for the coming Tuesday evenings. The repertoire was fetched from the classic jazz-library, and went all the way up to the modern bossanova, rendered with a strong sense for the rhythmical, in a genuine quality and with many a good surprise. The eight of them took part in proving the country-wide opinion, that its in Præstø Jazzklub things happen. Sublime. In front was Kjeld Brandt on clarinet. He was good there with fine phrasings on the black wooden insrument. On piano Hans Pedersen was a solid anchor-man, who together with Claus Lindhardt behind the drums, Erling Lindhardt on banjo and Stefan Kärfve on double bass created the strong rhythmical background. Together with Kjeld Brandt was a formidable wind-group. A fine playing Derek Winters on trumpet. He used the mute to perfection. Mike Owen, who under his hat thrilled the audience on trombone, and then Sarah Spencer, who really played some heavy tenorsax. Her playing was incredibly forceful, and not least she gave the octet a wonderful drive, which diminished the distance between the classic jazz and the more modern rhythmic music. With such an opening of the season great expectations are made for the future concerts, but as well old and new club-members agree that their expectations will be met. You may say, that the way the season was opened with New Orleans Delights joyful playing, the successors have something to live up to. Take a look at the bands website |
