Highlights from Bude Jazz Festival 2005
Welcome to a small sample of music from the eighteenth Bude Jazz Festival 2005. As usual fans gathered from far and wide to enjoy a wonderful week of their favourite music and meet up with fellow enthusiasts who they had possibly not seen since the previous years festival. Bude is an unforgettable experience offering a wide variety of traditional styles and other sessions ranging from swing to bop and beyond.
The bands on this CD represent the mix that is always evident, coming from all parts of the UK and beyond. Indeed the delightful town of Bude can truly claim international status for jazz week! An added bonus to the festival is the annual Life Boat festivities on holiday Monday ending with a spectacular firework display. Intervals in the music are usually arranged to coincide with it which is greeted with some relief by the recording engineers!
These recordings were made at live sessions in some of the twenty jazz venues but there are also several jazz parades which both lead the second liners and entertain the crowds. Strolling around the town, you will surely come across many musicians giving impromptu street performances.
If you were there, we hope this brings back happy memories of hot music and warm sunny days. If you were not there, then we hope that this souvenir album gives you a flavour of these festivals. This series of compilation CDs from the 1990 festival onwards is building into a historical record of jazz bands heard in the UK. They are all available from Raymer Sound.
See you in 2006!
