Another great Recording to be issued later this yearOne of the most exciting albums to come out in 2004 was, without a doubt, the "New Orleans Delight" Church concert in "Sorgenfri Kirke" featuring Cliff "Kid" Bastien and George Berry. Uniting these two old friends, George on tenor sax and Cliff on trumpet, was a great achievement and resulted in some fine jazz. The CD received "rave" reviews from most everyone who heard it. I was therefore really pleased to learn that there were additional tracks from that Scandinavian tour late in 2002. These additional tracks come from the "SeaSide Session" - another live concert which was also nicely recorded. When I eventually heard the new material, I quickly realised that they easily matched the standard of the original release in quality and drive. Both George and the "Kid" are sadly, no longer with us but their next-of-kin have given the go-ahead for this exciting new material to be released in a new CD! There are to be some unique bonus tracks which feature Cliff playing solo trumpet to piano accompaniment. Before he made the trip, Cliff wanted "New Orleans Delight" to hear some of the tunes he wanted to do and so he recorded the melodies and sent the tape off to Denmark. These bonus tracks show Cliff in another dimension. His trumpet tone, as he lays down the melody of these simple and haunting tunes, is beautiful. Fans and friends are in for a pleasant surprise, when this new CD is released. Brian Towers Photos: Göran Magnusson |
